Aging & Disability Resource Specialist
LINC Incorporated was awarded a grant from the National Council on Independent Living and the U.S. Administration on Aging to hire a part-time Aging and Disability Resource Specialist (ADRS). This person works to further awareness of services that LINC can provide to seniors.
Some of the tasks of the ADRS include visiting senior sites in St. Clair, Monroe and Randolph counties and providing information on services, such as assistive aids, adaptive equipment and transportation assistance for older adults who remain independent in their communities. Collaboration and assistance in the coordination of this program is provided by the Area Agency on Aging of Southwestern Illinois. LINC has worked with Area Agency on Aging in the past on issues such as Medicare Part D and Circuit Breaker assistance.
This program is provided because, many times, older adults do not see themselves as having a disability and don’t ask for assistance until it is too late. “Having the ADRS to pull our two groups together and conducting workshops that are beneficial to both seniors and people with disabilities will head this region in the right direction,” said to LINC Executive Director Erica Edwards.
Additional activities of the ADRS includes consulting with community members and providers about services that are needed in their respective counties and address them through a series of workshops for the aging and service providers. Current needs are being addressed from recent and are represented ina series of workshops held in August. To find out more about these workshops, email adrs@lincinc.org.
