Volunteers Needed Volunteer opportunities are available for photography, lending library coordinators for the blind, general office support for staff, and an instructor for basic computer instruction. Professional accounts/bookkeepers are also needed.
“Volunteers are needed on a daily basis,” according to Anisa Rucker, LINC Volunteer Coordinator, “and they play a vital role in the success of our work.”
“If you have anytime during the day to help out by volunteering at LINC we would be so grateful,” said Rucker. “By just volunteering one hour a day can provide us the assistance to serve the disability community.”
Last year LINC saved $17,000 through their volunteer program and the dedicated individuals who gave just a few hours a week. LINC has an annual budget of $650,000 that is provided through state funding and grants.
Grants Awarded LINC was recently awarded a grant from the National Council on Independent Living and the U.S. Administration on Aging to hire a part-time person to work as an Aging and Disability Resource Specialist (ADRS). This person will work from May until August to further awareness of services that LINC can provide to seniors. The agency was awarded a grant from the St. Clair County Mental Health Board. The funds will provide a 12-week course on recovery steps for those diagnosed with a mental illness, Freedom to Self Advocacy workshop series, and a IL Certified Mental Health Recovery Specialist to teach the new programs and work to reduce the time period between hospitalization and taking the first steps toward their recovery. Daughters of Charity Healthcare Foundation of St. Louis has granted LINC funds again this year for area home modification. The home modification program has been very successful in assisting individuals in meeting their accessibility needs within and outside the home.

30, 2008 Last day 9:00am We are proud to announce the 2nd Annual East-West Roll on the River 5K Race and 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk. Get ready to run, walk or roll with us on Saturday, June 14, in downtown St. Louis on Washington Avenue. This event is an annual fundraiser for LINC, IMPACT and Paraquad centers for independent living. By participating as a racer, walker, or just there to cheer them on, your support for people with disabilities to continue in overcoming barriers in our local community in deeply appreciated. To
register for the event, visit www.ewrollonriver.com. Equipment Needed We are currently seeking Assistive Technology device donations. Items are transported free of charge or may be dropped off at our Belleville office. In kind donors receive a letter for tax purposes. After donation items are sanitized and repaired under the supervision of a certified repair technician from Paraquad, the devices are distributed to individuals in need.
LINC is committed to bringing much needed assistive devices to persons with disabilities. In the last year LINC has helped over 130 individuals with disabilities receive items through the AT Reutilization Program. With the continued support of donors LINC hopes to increase the number of individuals that are given a chance to rejoin their communities. Call our office for more information. |
