How to Volunteer

Volunteers are critical to the services of LINC. Through the efforts of volunteers, we are able to spread the word, maintain our offices, expand our programs and better meet the needs of people with disabilities. Partner with LINC staff and the disability community to break down barriers and build a more caring and inclusive community for all. Volunteers at LINC are always needed to help with the following activities:

 

Accounting/Bookkeeping

Assist with tracking finances, assisting with annual audit and inventory. May be asked to handle numerous transactions at special events. Experience Required

Graphic Design

Create flyers, pamphlets, invitations, newsletters, or other graphic projects using Word, PageMaker, and other specialty software. Experience required. Volunteers can work a set schedule or on an as-needed basis.

Phone Calls

Assist making phone calls according to a script. All information provided. Training and support provided. Available at all offices.

Community Resource

Place phone calls and do Internet searches to create web resource sheets

Health Fair Representative

Serves on an as-needed basis to staff information tables at local venues to educate people about disabilities and LINC services. Includes set up, tear down, handing out materials, and answering questions. Training and materials provided. Needed in all areas

Photography

Experienced photographer to take photographs at special events. Volunteers work on an as-needed basis.

Computer: Data Entry

Perform data entry into a number of computer programs including: Excel and Access. Training provided for each program. Available at both offices.

Peer-to-Peer Support

Provide phone or face to face support to callers/consumers by answering questions, listening, and addressing concerns about disabilities, community resources, and LINC services. People with disabilities will make friendly phone calls to others with disabilities. Training is provided, and a minimum of 6-month commitment for 2 hours a week is required. Available at all offices.

Sharing Special Expertise

Ideal for people who want to share special skills with the organization. Open to most areas of expertise. Examples include: legal knowledge, banking, human resources, computer programming, landscaping, art, musical talent (band, piano, etc.), or others. Work is on an as-needed basis.

Coordinating Special Events

Committee member for a LINC sponsored event. May help with any of the following: Contacting sponsors, organizing guest lists, picking up donations, arranging logistics, publicizing events, or other duties needed to organize and event.

Legislative Support/Advocate

Use script to make phone calls to legislators, write emails and letters about legislation, and participate in the annual Rally Day in March. Training and supervision provided.

Speakers Bureau

Represent organization at speaking engagements and present information on a variety of disability-related topics. Must be comfortable with public speaking and an experienced presenter. Training, support, and materials provided. Must stay current on topics. Volunteers work on an as-needed basis. Needed in all three counties served.

Day-Of Special Event Support

Serve at periodic events to help with logistics, set up, tear down, staff support, or general assistance anywhere it is needed. Great for groups of people looking for an "as-needed" commitment. Volunteers needed in all areas at a variety of times per year.

Legislative Rally Participant

Travel to Springfield in March to lobby for legislation to improve life for persons with disabilities. Once a year volunteer can combine with other jobs. Transportation and training provided.

Support Group Facilitator

Host an approved group (locations may vary), manage publicity, contacts, follow-up, and referral to LINC services. Report monthly statistics, display LINC materials, and maintain order of the group. Advanced training required. Support and follow-up provided. Needed in all areas.

Delivering Items/Drivers

Pickup and transport donations, event supplies, or other items. Volunteers work on an as-needed basis. All areas.

Office Volunteer

Assists with general tasks to help the LINC office function. May include filing, copying, typing, answering phones, follow up calls, stocking supplies, recycling, assembling packets and mailings, shredding, using the Internet, or others. Training is provided to operate equipment. All locations.

Writing

Projects include newsletter copy, thank you notes, letters, article summaries, of others. May interview subjects to write articles. Work is mostly independent, through supervision is provided. Experience required

Readers

Volunteers needed to read printed materials for persons that are blind or visually impaired.

Outreach Ambassador

Spread word about disabilities & LINC services in own community. This includes distributing information and scheduling meetings with local doctors, pharmacists, businesses, and civic leaders. Training is included.

Numerous volunteer opportunities may be developed into supervised Internships. Please call your local LINC office for details...

holding our civil rights, equal opportunities, education, supported employment, community integration and accessibility in all areas of life! As a Superhero, you will also be helping the youth in St. Clair, Monroe and Randolph counties, ages 5-23, receive the education and support services available to them by law.

Sponsorship

 

LINC provides several sponsorship opportunities for area businesses and organization. Sponsorship opportunities are available for the annual work of the agency, support groups, workshops and a variety of programs. Your support as a spoonsor will help people with disabilities overcome barriers in our local community.  You will be helping capable people to become productive members of society and to integrate fully into the community.  Please join us as we seek to enable people with disabilities to lead lives of dignity and self-reliance.

Donations

LINC is a private non-residential service and advocacy organization. The agency's primary source of funding is the Illinois Department of Human Services-Office of Rehabilitation Services. Special events as well as contributions and grants from individuals, groups, businesses, and foundations help us to maintain and expand our work with and on behalf of all persons with disabilities.
